Splitting Tasks is handy if you must turn a long Task into separate Ones. Or reallocate some of the task's responsibilities to other members of your team. If you're in the middle of a long Task and need to make some adjustments, the EasyGanttCharts Split Task feature might be for you.

Note: It is not possible to undo split tasks.

Here's how you can split a task using the Gantt chart feature:

1. Go to the Interactive Gantt chart.

2. Right-click on the task you want to split.

3. Choose "Split Task" from the menu.

4. Specify the date when the second part of the task should begin. You can only select a date within the task's time frame.

5. Click "Submit" to apply the changes.

What happens when a task is split

For example, we want to split a task T of duration 8d.

1. The original task, let's call it Task T, is divided into two new tasks: T1 and T2.

2. The predecessors of the original Task T become the predecessors of the first split task, T1.

3. The successors of the original Task T become the successors of the second split task, T2.

4. A Finish-to-Start (FS) dependency is automatically created between T1 and T2. However, this

5. The original task's effort, budget, duration, and fixed price are divided proportionally between the two new split tasks.

For example, if the original Task T had a budget of $800, the budget for T1 would be $200, and the budget for T2 would be $600.

6. After the task has been split, you can now independently reschedule the second part (T2). Additionally, the split tasks can be assigned to different resources if needed.

The following tasks cannot be split.

1) Summary tasks

2) Task, which has a duration of 1 day or less

Additional Points.

If the original task has an MFO constraint, then the last task in the split will also have one.

If the original task has an SNLT constraint, then the first task in the split will have the SNLT constraint.
